10 easy miles from my home on the Murdock Canal Trail. Knee improving.

It's been a rough couple weeks, but that's Ok. Tough things make us tougher. As I mentioned previously, I had to have a giant kidney stone surgically removed last week. Not fun, and it took more out of me than I thought it would. The surgeon left a 2.5 foot long stent in place, which I had to remove 4 days later (I'll tell ya, that was a lot of fun :). He absolutely wouldn't let me run until the stent was removed (because he said it could become dislodged by doing so). So, I took last week off from running. I then started back running this week.  It was tough and painful (because I was still recovering from surgery). Then, for some reason, my knee really acted up on Wednesday, and I felt it would be wise to take a couple days off.  I decided to test it today, and my knee felt improved, for which I'm very grateful. I'm sick of not running.

In a weird way, I am glad I experienced the brutal and unrelenting kidney stone pain (although I'd be fine with never experiencing it again :). The reason is that distance runners need to become well-aquainted with and seek after pain. It's part of our world. Maybe it will make me tougher :)

Good to see you back running Matt. I agree that its good to stay acquainted with pain. I'm sure it will make you tougher.

Thanks, Justin. How have you been feeling lately?

Great to see you back out there Matt. I am glad you had the kidney stone too :) But I don't think you need much help in the tough department.

Yeah I've seen Matt nearly rip his hamstring off the bone to outkick someone on a road covered in ice :-)

Every time I think of the stent being removed I cringe. That sounds awful to me. Glad you are on the mend.

I completely missed this one. Glad to see you're getting back to running.
