Fun Turkey Day race.  Happy about my performance.  Didn't quite know what to expect given my last few weeks of craziness.  I did a tempo run last Saturday (which was my first speed session in 3 weeks), and I knew based on how that went that I am not in top form.  But, that's Ok... time to get in better shape.

My time for today's 4-mile race was 20:40 (5:10 average).  It was essentially a bone-flat 4-miler.  Splits:  4:57, 5:08, 5:24 (headwind, slight uphill), 5:04).  Mike won it in 20:04; he's in great shape and looked strong.  My hat's off to him.  A BYU cross country runner took 2nd, and Zak was 3rd in about 20:30.

I felt better as the race progressed.  I was in 6th place at the 3 mile mark, and I was able to gradually accelerate to the finish.  Given my current training and the wild last 3 weeks, I'm happy with how it went.

Definitely a lot of fun today.  Hanging out with many friends was the highlight.

Great race Matt.

What's "international" about this race?

From Matt Poulsen on Thu, Nov 28, 2013 at 14:05:55 from 174.52.216.185

Thanks guys.

Rob, absolutely nothing. I was wondering the same thing :)

Great Job Matty! Have a great Thanksgiving!

That's a great race off one workout in several weeks. You will be hammering those sub 5 minute miles in no time. I am only disappointed that a BYU cross country guy took 2nd. They are only the 4th best team in the country :) Have a great Thanksgiving!

Matt: Congratulations on good recovery!

Rob: It used to be called International but got renamed to be just Earn Your Turkey. It was international today, though - we had two girls from Mongolia. You could also call it "international" if you counted the number of foreign languages spoken by the participants. Let's count - I can vouch right away for Russian, Spanish, French, German and Mongolian. Based on the Utah County demographics we could be quite certain that we had Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Tagalog, Korean, and several Eastern European languages. Let's see if we can prove that - if you know for sure that a participant spoke a particular foreign language, either as his first language or fluently as a foreign language, go ahead and post.

Great job after a hard recovery from surgery and stuff. I hate that 3rd mile it always is my slowest and the wind seemed bad on that stretch.

Nice run Matt. It was great to share the morning with you, as always. Shake off that rust and you'll be killing it again shortly.
