| 4am, 20 miles I had to catch a flight out of town this morning, so I had to get this run done early (I will not have time to get in a long run tomorrow). I'm in Chicago for a conference. Mike was kind enough to plan to join me for the run, but he got a stomach bug yesterday and was too sick. He made a smart move -- better to sleep than do a long run when sick. Hope he feels better soon. I did not feel it this morning. My legs were fatigued and tired. I did 4 miles of tempo in the middle, averaging in the 5:20's, but I had a lot more tempo planned. I decided to listen to the body and run easy the rest of the run. I've had some decent workouts lately; maybe that's partly why my legs were so tired. Also, I've noticed that when I have to run excessively early, without much sleep, my long run does not go well. I know, it's a no-brainer. It's not rocket science. It's amazing how much the small details matter with distance running. |
